The FDA approved a new anti-impotence drug called Viagra Super Active for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
The medication is made by the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, but it’s sold under the brand name Super Active in Canada and is approved for sale in the U. S. and other European countries. It’s the first in a new class of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors.
The drug has been called a PDE5 inhibitor because it works by blocking the effects of a natural chemical called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP causes smooth muscle to relax, and blood vessels in the penis, called the corpus cavernosum, dilate and increase blood flow to the penis. That helps a man get and keep an erection.
When a man starts to get and keep an erection, he may be able to have a spontaneous sexual activity. The effects of PDE5 inhibitors can last from a few minutes to an hour. They work by increasing blood flow to the penis, which can be a long and complicated process.
The drug is sold under the brand name Super Active and was approved in the U. for sale in Canada and the European Union in 2018. The drug is not approved for sale in the U.
